Research
Day one.
After working on several projects and assignments in class, it is time for the real thing.
I am both excited and nervous for this endeavor.
There are so many genres and ideas to choose from.
My group members and I were overwhelmed with our options.
Should we do a thriller, romance, comedy, action, drama?
Well, according to Statista, the answer is drama.
In 2017, 33% of TV programs were centered towards drama;
We were excited to choose this genre considering most of the popular
TV shows and movies are included in this field. Many teenagers are
obsessed with binging drama TV shows and films on Netflix, such as
moves the audience through the use of real people going through emotional
life events, mostly through journeys and adventures (SlideShare). With this
information, we decided to make our plot about a girl who thinks about running
away from home with a boy; this ties in elements of a journey.
For our characters, we drew experience from the show End of the F***ing
World, which is shown on Netflix; this show has a small cast featuring only two
main characters: James, a 17-year-old boy who thinks he is a psychopath, and
Alyssa, a 17-year-old cool, moody girl (IMDb). With a small cast, we believe we
will be able to develop the character arcs and leave the audience wanting for me.
Therefore, we decided to have one teenage girl and a teenage boy that she has
a crush on.
For our plot, we also received inspiration from the show End of the F***ing World
(what can we say, it’s a good show). The plot consists of growing connection
between Alyssa and James and their journey as Alyssa convinces James to go
on an adventure with her to find her real father (IMDb). We liked the idea of leaving
home to go on adventure or out in the open, so we decided that the our female
character is thinking about running away from home with the male character.
In addition, we wanted to add elements of mischief and rebellious personalities
from the show as well. However, once we find more about the characters and
plot, I will update you on the specifics!
Bye for now!
